Education & Work Experience

With the relationships that I’ve built and my experience helping companies of all sizes, I fight every day to keep South Dakota at the top of the nation’s list of best states to do business.

Born & Raised
I was born and raised in Arlington, SD. I’m proud to have grown up in our state’s K-12 system, played football and received my degree at Northern State University, married my high school sweetheart, Ashley, and started my family here in South Dakota.

Over the last six years, I’ve been fortunate to help grow jobs and improve communities throughout South Dakota in my role at Heartland Consumers Power District. My job focuses on helping towns build up infrastructure and increase quality of life. I’ve worked to champion small business across the region.
Accomplishments & Issues
During my two years in the SD Senate, I was elected Majority Whip by my colleagues in my freshman year, served as Chairman of Senate Commerce and Energy and was a Member – State Affairs, Transportation, Legislative Procedures. In that time, I’ve been the prime sponsor and played a meaningful role in the following:

This monumental legislation provides $200 million for infrastructure to be utilized by communities and developers to address critical housing shortages across SD, while eliminating unnecessary red tape.

This legislation solidifies cybersecurity as a cornerstone of our regional economy, creates 500+ high paying jobs, doubles the capacity of students and faculty at DSU, is integral to national security and keeps South Dakota graduates in state.

This bill appropriated $1.25M for research into protecting precision agriculture. The partnership brings together national leaders in agriculture and cybersecurity to ensure food security and protect our ag producers.

Appropriations for rural roads to support agriculture by improving our county and township roads and bridges.
